Hi! Welcome to “My Sister’s Kitchen”. Let me start by telling you a few facts about my kitchen:
- I rarely use it, especially at dinner since we eat out A LOT.
- I do NOT bake. Mostly because I don’t like to measure and I end up burning everything anyway.
- I love cookbooks (with pictures). I own dozens of them. This might seem weird since I rarely cook, but I can actually follow a recipe pretty well.
The thing is, I really like to cook! I love the colors of fresh foods. I love to feed my family a nice meal. I love to have a cocktail while I’m doing it. I think this love of cooking started when my kids were young as an excuse to get away from them. Kind of like offering to go pick up the take out Chinese food early just to get a glass of wine alone at the sketchy Chinese food restaurant bar. It doesn’t matter that you are the only person and that they charge $15 for a glass of bad chardonnay. I may or may not have done that. Over the years I did become slightly more selective with wine and I also began to really love to cook for reasons other than drinking alone. Even though that is still a major selling point.
I don’t want to set your expectations too high. My goals are to share my food ideas, successes, disasters, and tips! I have 2 children (age 9 and 6). My oldest child basically doesn’t eat until she is hungry and eats a bunch of small meals a day while focusing mostly on fruit, nuts and other healthy things. How absurd and annoying is that for a 9 year old? (I am so jealous). My youngest eats 3 breakfasts (he literally ate 4 waffles today after a bowl of cereal), 2 lunches, 2 dinners, snacks ALL DAY LONG and has a natural 6 pack of abs. (I am so jealous). The third person I feed is my husband who basically eats like a child (except for Bud Light, which I guess isn’t really a food but has served as a meal many times). How do I say this nicely….he is a BASIC eater. In his defense, he has gotten WAY more adventurous in his eating, but he still eats “nothing from the sea” and for dessert, at even the nicest restaurant, asks for a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. And then there is me. I have been on a mission to follow a clean eating whole food diet. I also try to skip the carbs completely when I can without being obnoxious or missing out on something awesome. Believe me, if it is worth the calories and carbs I eat it.
And there you have it. Welcome to my kitchen!
