Be Thankful (Colossians 3:15)

There’s something about this time of year that makes me get all sappy.  The weather is changing, we are gearing up for the holidays and another year is almost behind us.  All of these things make me reflect on everything I am grateful for.

As these thoughts have been spinning through my mind lately, and the fact that all of you are one of them, I thought it would be a good time to share.  Each one tells you a little more about me and to break up all that sentiment, I’ve also added a few of my favorite things.

(Please note that this is my short list – I could write pages and pages about all of the things I am grateful for – shopping, wine, Gracie (even though I threatened to kill her last week), Trader Joes, pumpkin ravioli, chambongs, etc.  Maybe I’ll write a separate post with bullet points of my top 25….tbd)

Family – I always try to keep in mind that many people’s greatest challenges revolve around their family.  It’s a group you don’t choose yet you have to consider your whole life through.  In many cases that is terribly hard. This is why I feel infinitely blessed for my family’s bond.  Yes, we drive each other crazy, but our love runs deep.  We choose to live near each other, have dinner at least a couple nights a week and support each other through the ups and downs.  That is truly my greatest gift and what I am most grateful for now and always.

Slippers – I am also realllllllyyyyy grateful for Ugg slippers.  I have worn this style between 5 and 10 hours a day for more years than I care to admit.  They are warm, easy to slip on and durable enough to run outside in.  A must have in my book!

Friendship – Although somewhat controversial, I have always lived by the motto that I’d rather have a small group of good friends than a million acquaintances.  I’m friendly (I think) but I don’t necessarily go out of my way to bond every time I meet someone new.  I’m sure this has cost me a lot of amazing relationships (and quite possibly one of the reasons I’m still single, oy!) but it has also given me the time and energy to stay connected with those that mean the most to me, my ride or dies!  Luckily, I’ve felt instant bonds with so many people that have quickly become part of this group but seriously, how lucky am I to feel like my group of friends completes me?  My tribe is amazing (you know who you are) and I’ll never be able to express in words just how thankful I am for these beautiful souls!

Nail Polish – I have a thing for nail polish (test me next time you see me – I can name most nail polishes, brand and color, by sight) but this time of year I’m especially thankful for Essie’s Smokin Hot.  It’s my go-to Fall/Winter color.

Work – Like most, I’ve been through hell more than happiness when it comes to work but lately I really feel in my groove businesswise.  I don’t write too much about it because, let’s face it, every time I say “accountant” I want to yell “nerd alert” but I really love my job.  A few years ago, I started my own consulting business and it was the best decision I ever made.  Yes, I spend at least 75% of my time working and some days are really long and stressful but all in all I wake up excited to get back at it.  Who says that??  Especially about accounting??? ME!

I not only attribute this to being able to work from home in a head-to-toe sweat suit but also working with really cool people who do really rad things and building a great support of wonderful women who work on my team.  I am just so thankful for all of it and hope I’m able to continue on this path.

High Waisted Leggings – High waisted leggings are basically a gift from God in my humble opinion.  The fact that a pair of pants that tight can make you feel good about yourself is nothing short of a miracle.  My favorites are the High Rise Chaturanga tights from Athleta.

Age – Although I definitely don’t appreciate the wrinkles or slowing metabolism, I am so grateful for the confidence that comes with age.  Gone are the days I overanalyze every interaction, second guess most decisions or beat myself up over every unhealthy choice I make (which are a lot – have you seen what I eat on my IG feed?).  Most days I just feel really grateful to be confident and happy in my own skin and I can’t attribute that to much else than maturity.

Coffee – The Keurig single cup coffee maker basically changed my life.  I’m obsessed with mine and keep it next to my bed (I know, creepy) so I can make coffee first thing in the morning.  I’m grateful for it EVERY.SINGLE.DAY!

Support – This is where you guys come in.  The support my friends and followers have given me on this new endeavor as a blogger has been amazing.  No one owed me anything yet so many people came out of the woodwork to offer words of encouragement, advice, or just general support in trying something new.  It has given me a renewed sense of hope and been a constant reminder (my phone lights up every time I get a comment, like or new follower) that there is so much good in this world.  So thank you, thank you, thank you for reading this, following along on Instagram or Facebook and just being a constant encouragement to a nerdy accountant trying her luck in fashion.  You are an amazing human and I am forever grateful for your support!
