The Name Game

Many of you have asked me why I chose the name “Pops of Purple” for the blog. To be honest, I wish I had a really great story behind the name or at the very least thought fast enough on my feet to make one up when asked. But atlas, I have neither.

I really wanted to call it “F is for Fabulous” but that name was already taken by another Instagram user. That one I actually have a funny story for:

When I was a teenager, I got an F on a test at school (which is actually sort of shocking because I’m basically a huge nerd.) But anyway, I was SO upset over the terrible grade and just couldn’t let it go. That afternoon, my self-chosen Godmother (my mom’s best friend whose full of personality, fun and flat out craziness (in the best way possible)) said to me “But Maggie, F is for Fabulous!!!!” and started laughing so hard you couldn’t help but laugh with her. Honestly, she really meant it and taught me a good life lesson that day – to give myself a break every once in a while, or in the words of Elsa “LET IT GO!”. She’s always had the best perspective on things and knows exactly how to use her silly, care free, hippy dippy perspective to cheer me up. Love her for that and so much more!

Ok, back to Pops of Purple. One of my favorite bloggers is Arielle Noa Charnas of Something Navy so that got me thinking about incorporating a color into my name.  And my favorite color is purple – always has been, always will be. Then I just started running through other P words so the name would be something catchy that people would remember. And there you have it – Pops of Purple was born.

Over the past few months, I’ve grown quite fond of the name and appreciate the fact that I can refer to it as just “pops” which is easy and fun. I also can’t wait to hit some respectable number of followers (# has yet to be determined) and buy 1 million purple balloons to take a picture with, that’s basically a dream come true for me. And just recently, I named my followers “poppies” which feels like the perfect description for all of you fun-loving, fashionable, foxy, fabulous souls.
