I have 13 childhood best friends. Seriously – 13! And I still think each and every one of them are the bomb.com. I am so lucky! One way we kept in touch throughout college was to send daily emails summarizing our high-low-high’s for the day. I so wish we had saved those emails, they would make for an amazing (and probably somewhat humiliating) book! Ok, a really humiliating book, possibly incriminating, but definitely hysterical!
The game is simple. You name a great thing about life or your day (whatever floats your boat – nothing’s off limits big or small), then a bad thing, and then a good thing again. The only rule to the game is that you have to end on a high note. No ifs, ands or buts. You can have 200 lows but you have to end on a high!
As we’ve gotten older we still start a high-low-high email chain every now and then. It’s a great way to keep in touch without having to send a massive life update email, super easy to respond to and overall a great way to learn both the big and little things going on in each other’s lives. It’s also a great way to get your kids talking at the dinner table or a great ice breaker in those really awkward moments when no one has anything to say. It’s basically the greatest game ever and I think everyone should find a way to incorporate it into their lives.
I’ve shared a lot about myself on this blog and now I really want to get to know you, my readers. So to get that relationship going, I want to start the game here. I’ll go first and then you guys leave your high-low-high in the comments below!
High – I got 2 awesome packages in the mail this week – one was new sneakers from my dad (the perks of your father working for a running company) and one with cocktail ingredients included. Day made!
Low – All of my pants are way too tight so I’m forcing myself to eat lettuce instead of nachos for a few days. Torture!
High – After writing this post I’m sitting here thinking about those 13 amazing people referenced above. Grateful is an understatement.
