I basically grew up in the most patriotic town of all time. Hingham, Massachusetts takes July 4th so seriously that they got special permission from the state to paint the road lines on Main Street red, white and blue. Houses cover their entire façade with American flags (yes, this means they can’t see out their front windows for weeks)! This is hard core America right here and I absolutely LOVE it!
The day begins with a road race down Main Street, breakfast at a friend’s house downtown and then off to the parade which even I will admit lasts way longer than necessary. Almost the entire town participates (I was Betsy Ross as a child – stop laughing!) and everyone else cheers them on for hours and hours. Every single person will be in head to toe red, white and blue and many will be carrying little American flags in their hand or drink. This is how I grew up and how I always hope my July 4ths will be.
(One of my best friend’s daughters posing for the picture – sweet Ellie!)
After knowing that background, it will make a lot more sense that I started thinking about outfit options weeks in advance of the big day. Although I won’t be in Hingham this year (tear), I still have a parade and multiple parties to attend so I must be prepared for whatever the California weather may bring. In case anyone is looking for a little inspiration for their own July 4th attire, I’ve included a few of the outfits I’ve pulled together below. Have a wonderful, fun and safe 4th of July my friends!
